In recent weeks, Project HELP NOW has been collecting donations at our various drop points, comprised of both physical goods and monetary donations. Today we are sending DTCare a packet including all the monetary donations collected so far, which totals $5,123. The list of generous donors includes individuals, businesses, and schools, all of whom embody the true spirit of Project HELP NOW. We want to protect the privacy of individual donors, but we do want to specifically thank the businesses and schools who donated: Central Catholic High School (Canton, OH); Integrity Men With Vision - West Independence United Methodist Church (Findlay, OH); Stanley Miller Construction (Canton, OH). DTCare will use these donations to help cover the staggering shipping expenses to send the relief goods to Europe, via both airfreight and ocean freight.

Today was an exciting day for Project HELP NOW. We spent the past 2 days sorting, assembling, packing, palletizing, documenting, and shipping! Through the generosity of our supporters, today Project HELP NOW shipped 5 more pallets of goods to support the victims of the Ukrainian refugee crisis. You can view packing slips here to see the specific items sent, including over 1,000 personal hygiene kits. The crisis in Ukraine has shown us the ugliness of evil, but it has also shown us countless little examples of how goodness and compassion can shine through, like our truck driver today, who willingly made special accommodations to fit our 5 pallets on his truck at the last minute. Thank you, sir. You are a valuable member of Project HELP NOW!

Throughout the month of April, St. Raphael Center in Canton, OH has helped support a local prayer group with their efforts toward Project HELP NOW. Spearheaded by Stephanie Cooper, Janice Cooper, Linda Miller, and Lisa Sicker, this group coordinated a radio PSA on Living Bread Radio Network (1060 AM / 94.5 FM / Canton, OH) to ask the community for supplies, monetary donations, and prayers for those affected by the war in Ukraine. The team also coordinated with Aultman Hospital, who generously donated a great deal of the requested supplies. Under the leadership of the prayer group on April 27th from 4-7pm, St. Raphael Center opened its doors to the community, who turned out in force with volunteers and donations. By the grace of the Holy Spirit, the team assembled 500 personal hygiene kits, plus assorted other supplies, and they also gathered over $1,500 to support the transportation costs Europe!

Rotary International runs a project called MESA – Medical Equipment & Supplies Abroad. As their name indicates, they focus on collecting medical equipment and supplies from around the U.S.A. and donating those goods to communities in need around the world. One of MESA’s national depots for storing donated goods is located in Fostoria, OH. When the manager of this MESA facility, Scott Salyers, heard about Project HELP NOW, he reached out to offer his help. On April 11th and 12th, the teams from MESA, DTCare, and Project HELP NOW all met at the MESA facility in Fostoria to load up a full 53ft. semi plus another 16ft cargo trailer with much-needed supplies ranging from crutches & walkers, to cots & gurneys, to mattresses & bed pans, to advanced medical equipment & supplies. In all, over 16,000 pounds of goods were donated by MESA and transported to the DTCare facility in Pennsylvania. Many of these items have already been sent to support Ukrainian refugees, and more are still being sorted for future shipments to support not only those refugees, but also DTCare’s other efforts around the world in locations such as Panama and Lebanon.

In early April, an anonymous donor showed up at The Buffalo Trading Company - a Project HELP NOW drop point – to deliver a full pallet of medical supplies. These included medical gowns, face masks, sanitary wipes, and face shields, which are extremely helpful in the refugee camps. Project HELP NOW is very grateful for this Christian example of charity from the anonymous donor. Matthew Chapter 6 tells us, “But take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them … When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you … to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.”

We have been making efforts this week to get relief goods to the refugees as quickly and efficiently as possible. At our request, our transport agent started the process of seeking discounted freight rates so that we can ship these goods at the best rate possible.
